50 Moments That Made Dad’s Army: #6 Lighthouse

Lighthouse

Occasionally the walmington-on-sea Platoon get themselves so deeply into trouble it’s hard to see how they’ll dig themselves out. That’s certainly the case in this episode, Put That Light Out, first screened on 6 November 1970. I’ve blogged about this episode before.

With Jones, Fraser, Pike and Godfreys stationed on guard at the Lighthouse, Mainwaring and Wilson are expecting a quiet evening.

That plan goes horribly wrong when the guards manage to light up the whole of Walmington-on-sea with the lamp of the Lighthouse which they can’t shut-off. At the end of the episode they find themselves in a situation where Godfrey is at very real risk of being gunned down by Mainwaring as he attempts to extinguish the light before the Luftwaffe can use it to help bomb the town.
